Bio:

Arlo graduated from the MPP in 2024. He loves New Mexico and wants to use his MPP to help improve the lives of New Mexicans by merging data-driven policy work with compassionate, data-driven, community support initiatives. He has a particular interest in prevention, public safety, public health, and education. Arlo chose the MPP for the blend of skills like policy analysis, program evaluation, and data-driven decision-making that align with his goal of working on community-focused initiatives. Additionally, the relationship building and opportunity to be involved in projects both off and on campus ensured that Arlo gained both academic and hands-on experience. Arlo is a curious person by nature and enjoys identifying patterns and finding solutions to complex problems.

Arlo was raised in Hobbs NM and moved to Albuquerque NM in 2015 to attend UNM where he earned a BA in Psychology and Philosophy with a concentration in Pre-Law. In terms of psychology, Arlo was most interested in research and data analysis; and in terms of philosophy, he was most interested in political thought and ethics. Arlo's most impactful experience in the MPP was a project with a community organization, he was expected to facilitate an evaluation activity during one of their staff events. When they began the activity, Arlo had trouble with engagement and was experiencing some resistance from the audience. However, after some readjustments in messaging, the team was able to get through the activity. The experience taught Arlo to not give up if things don’t go as expected. Sometimes, it is necessary to meet people halfway and it is worth doing so.

Arlo is very thankful for his family and all their support throughout his life and academic journey. He is also grateful for the family he has acquired; his partner Sarah and their pack of dogs provide Arlo with so much joy, and have been his haven during stressful and difficult times. Sarah has made meaningful sacrifices so Arlo could stay focused on his degree, and Arlo is deeply thankful for her support every step of the way. Lastly, Arlo is grateful for the MPP staff and faculty. Anytime he faced barriers or had questions Mike, Emma, and Melissa always provided guidance and support, whether it was for a project, his academic path, or career goals/expectations, they always helped him out without hesitation.
